South American Mini-Series: Hummus Arepas

Welcome back to our South American Spice mini-series! In this post, we're bringing you the flavors of Venezuela with our delicious Hummus Arepas. These savory cornmeal patties are filled with Infused Mediterranean Foods' hummus and topped with avocado, black beans, and queso fresco. Let's get started!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups cornmeal

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 2 cups water

  • Infused Mediterranean Foods' hummus

  • Sliced avocado

  • 1 cup black beans, cooked

  • 1/2 cup crumbled queso fresco

  • Hot sauce (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine cornmeal, salt, and water. Mix until you have a smooth and pliable dough.

  2. Divide the dough into equal-sized portions and shape them into small patties.

  3. Cook the arepas on a hot griddle or skillet over medium heat for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.

  4. Slice each arepa in half and spread a generous layer of Infused Mediterranean Foods' hummus on one side.

  5. Top with sliced avocado, black beans, and crumbled queso fresco.

  6. Optionally, drizzle with your favorite hot sauce for an extra kick of flavor.

  7. Serve the Hummus Arepas warm and enjoy the unique blend of Mediterranean and South American flavors!
